DFEST

If there’s ever a time to prove that Tulsa has what it takes to cater to your rhythmic cravings, that time is quickly approaching and come Friday, July 24th the feast known as DFEST will be in full force.

Chances are, if you live in or around Tulsa, someone you know (and probably you) has made plans to attend at least one, if not both, days of the music festival. It seems that everywhere I go someone is talking about it. One of the opinions coming at me is that Friday has the better line up because The Black Crows will be there. Just when Friday starts to seem like the day of choice, I am trampled with “I don’t think so dude; Blue October and Cake on Saturday.” Everyone has their big name favorites, and this is an argument not soon to be settled, but how much thought have you given to the local bands that will be playing? Which of these bands will you be sure not to miss?

I do not think there is enough time, or space, to tell you all the reasons you should direct some of your attention to the Oklahoma talent that will be playing DFEST. For this reason I have asked my friends, family and coworkers this question: “Who is your favorite local band?” Every time I ask this question, no one really knows what to say. I can almost see the wheels turning, searching for a local band that they have a least heard of--but the first answer is never the final answer. After they spout out the name of the first band that comes to mind, it is always followed by “Oh no, have you heard of ______? Are they playing? You gotta’ check them out!”

So here are the top three, as voted on in my little poll:

The Fiascos: Of the, what like 5, people reading this, how many of you listened to Phil & Brent this morning on KMOD? If you did, then you got a taste of why they are top of my list of people not to miss. They are playing the Dilly Deli stage at 6:10 on Saturday the 25th. I realize there are other great locals playing at the same time, but make sure you make it to this one, if for no other reason than because it may be your last chance to see all the current band members together.

Callupsie: I have never had the personal experience of hearing this band play live, but judging from the music on their MySpace page, this will be one worth watching. It has been highly recommended to me, and now I pass that on to you. Make sure you are at Electric Circus at 11:10 on Friday the 24th.

RadioRadio: It’s going to be a great day to just enjoy life, so make sure you’re back at Electric Circus at 12:10 am Sunday the 26th. (That would be part of Saturday’s line-up for the time impaired.) Sometimes you listen to songs and just feel required be happy and move around. That is the exact feeling I get from these guys.
So for a full line up of who’s playing and when, go to the official DFEST website (http://dfest09.sched.org/) then come out and have a good time--but let’s not make it your last, so please don’t drink and drive!
